In November 2003 Samsung introduced three monochrome printers targeted at enterprise customers – the ML-2550, ML-2551N and ML-2552W. All three print at an OEM-rated speed of 25 pages per minute (ppm) and have a duty cycle of 100,000 pages per month. The differences between the three models are that the ML-2551N ships network-ready and the ML-2552W features wireless connectivity. The ML-2550 has neither of these features.
All three models ship with 5,000 page yield starter cartridges. These are basically full yield cartridges filled with only half the full toner load.
Printers will not print without user intervention if the chip is missing from the cartridge. An “invalid toner” message will display with each print job, and printing will continue only after the end user opens and closes the printer door. The printers will operate with a spent chip, but improper messaging and supply information is displayed.
