In late 2005 NEC introduced their MultiWriter 1700C color printer based on the Fuji-Xerox DocuPrint® C525A print engine. Print speeds were OEM rated at 5 color pages per minute (ppm) and 25 black and white ppm.
Other OEMs also launched their own versions based on the C525A print engine, including Dell® (3100CN) and Epson® (AcuLaser® C1100). Supplies for all brands are nearly identical, but are not interchangeable.
The 1700C supplies set is made up of four toner tubes (cartridges) and one drum unit. Color cartridges are offered in 1,500 page standard yield and 4,000 page high yield versions, with black sold only in 4,000 page yield capacity.
All toner cartridges require chips for the printers to function correctly.
