In September, 2003, Lexmark announced the release of the E220 as a replacement for the E210. Unlike the E210, which was based on a Samsung engine, the E220 was based on the same Lexmark-developed engine used in the E321 (April 2003) and targeted at home offices, small- and medium-size businesses.
At the time of release the E220 had the fastest rated print speed of any laser printer under $200 (at up to 18 pages per minute). Where the E210 was host-based, E220 was not (it had more memory, and not dependent on the computer for rendering print jobs).
The E220 ships with a 1,500 page starter cartridge. Replacements are chipped and are available in 3,000 and 6,000 page yield versions.
