HP ink jet printers that use HP Type 177 ink jet cartridges also use HP Type 02
Unique Keying Features
Each HP tank style cartridge color is keyed to prevent improper installation in the printer. The key is located on the black surface of the cartridge opposite the chip. Difference color cartridges are keyed differently, but like colors of different types are keyed the same. For example, the magenta HP 02 is keyed the same as the magenta HP 177.
The black cartridge has two “T” shaped keys. The other five colors are keyed with a “Y” shape that is rotated in five different orientations, one for each color.
Tank Style Sealing Methods
There are two types of sealing methods found in HP tank style cartridges, the ball sealed and the septum sealed. Septum sealed cartridges have a slit in the septum which seals automatically. Dispensing tips inserted into the port of septum sealed cartridges will stay in place with no additional manipulation. This is the most common type available.
The ball sealed cartridges utilize a spring, ball and septum to seal the cartridge. When emptying or filling this seal type it is important that you use Static Control’s specially designed dispensing tip to properly allow air and ink to flow in or out of the cartridge. Use of any other standard dispensing tip may result in the spring ball pressing against the ink tip which creates a seal on the end of the dispensing tip, inhibiting the ink flow in or out of the cartridge.
Install Dates
OEM chips provide an “install date” which is the latest date recommended for installation in the printer to provide the maximum useful life of the product. Static Control also provides the “install date” for the same reason. The “install date” is located on Static Control’s strip pack label.
Static Control strongly recommends that all remanufacturers of ink jet cartridges, using Static’s ink jet chips, manage and rotate their chip stock using FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures. This will prevent the build up of out-of-date products.
