After its initial introduction in April 2003 to the European and Asian markets the HP 1150 personal monochrome printer became available in the United States. Intended as a replacement for the popular LaserJet 1200, the 1150 is basically a non-chipped version of the HP 1300 (April 2003), and is available in only one configuration (non-network ready). It was targeted at small work teams and business users with advanced printing needs as a low-cost alternative for the laser printer market.

The HP 1150's print speed is rated at 18 pages per minute (ppm) for letter (17 ppm for A4), compared to the 1300’s 20 ppm (19 ppm for A4). Both feature instant-on fusing for a fast, no warm-up delay.

The HP 1150’s all-in-one UltraPrecise print cartridge is available in both standard-yield (2,500-page) and high-yield (4,000-page) versions, neither of which require chips for correct printer operation.
