The HP LaserJet Enterprise 500 Color M551 printer was introduced in September 2011 with an OEM rated print speed of 33 pages per minute (ppm) in both color and black-and-white printing. The LaserJet Enterprise 500 Color M575 MFP followed in June 2012/ Print speeds were OEM rated at 21 ppm in both color and black-and-white printing. Both the printer and MFP were listed with an average monthly duty cycle of approximately 75,000 pages.

Printers ship with pre-installed full capacity toner cartridges (yield ~5,500 pages black and ~6,000 pages color). An 11,000 page high yield black cartridge is also available. Chips are required on all toner cartridges for correct printer operation.

Note that although the M551/M575 MFP cartridges are similar to those used by the HP CP3525, the cartridges require different toner loads and chips, and are not interchangeable.
