In March 1998, HP launched the LaserJet 5000 Series monochrome printers based on the Canon LBP-62X engine. OEM-rated at 16 pages per minute (ppm), these printers were designed for improved productivity in both small and large workgroups. These printers were introduced as replacements for the LaserJet 4V and 4MV (BXII).
Canon is marketing its own branded printers based on this engine. These Canon models are most frequently encountered in Japan and other Pacific Rim countries. The Canon version of the toner cartridge is identified as an EP-62 cartridge.
