The FX-V/KX cartridge was first introduced to North American and European markets in Canon’s LaserClass® 8000 plain paper fax machine in 1995. The LaserClass 8000 was a high-end fax machine with wide format faxing and printing capabilities well-suited for medium to large-sized businesses. The FX-V cartridge, however, was not exactly new. It had been sold with numerous printers marketed in Japan and China that were based on the same KX (EP-K) engine featured in the LaserClass 8000.
The FX-V cartridge is most similar in design to the BX/BXII cartridge. However, the hopper differs in that the toner low sensor bar is a long metal strip attached to the cartridge, instead of the commonly used bar found in other Canon cartridges.
The toner low sensor bar is installed on top of the OEM seal and attached to the seal channel with plastic welds. This unusual configuration necessitates removal of the welds, toner low sensor bar and OEM seal remnants in order to provide a suitable base for aftermarket seal installation. Static Control has devised an aftermarket bracket system to quickly and easily re-secure the toner low sensor bar to the seal channel. The hopper and waste bin sections are held together by straight cartridge pins that can be somewhat difficult to remove if the pins are lodged in the cartridge casing. To facilitate the remanufacturing process, Static Control 's offers cartridge pins with a slim-line head that can be easily grasped and pulled from the cartridge.
The FX-V cartridge uses short and long hopper tension springs to maintain pressure between the waste bin and hopper sections. Springs that are stretched, deformed, missing or interchanged, can prevent the two cartridge sections from seating properly and result in light print or blank pages. Static Control offers both short and long replacement springs.
When replacing the doctor blade, remove the plastic wipers at each end of the doctor blade stamping and install them on the replacement blade using adhesive strips (included with Static Control's doctor blade).
