In May 2014, Brother released the HL-L8350 in North America, the first of several color laser printers and multifunction printers (MFPs) based on the same print engine. OEM-rated print speeds ranged from 28 to 32 pages per minute (ppm) in both color and black-and-white printing, and with duty cycles from 40,000 to 75,000 pages per month.
Supplies for the group include four toner cartridges and a separate drum unit. Replacement color toner cartridges (cyan, magenta and yellow) are offered in 1,500 page standard yield, 3,500 page high yield and 6,000 page extra-high yield versions. Replacement black toner cartridges are available in 2,500 page standard yield, 4,000 page high yield and 6,000 page extra-high yield versions. Drums are offered only in a 25,000 page yield version.
Toner cartridge and drum unit SKUs differ by geographic market. Toner cartridges require a flag gear that must be reset for correct printer operation. There is no chip required.
